You may have seen a major local public website has been showing signs of being tampered with. We are keeping an eye on it.

Out of caution, the Antigonish Reel is doing a precautionary security review of our own setup. There is no sign that the Reel has been affected, and the site is operating normally. We are doing this simply because local public-interest websites are part of a community's everyday infrastructure, and they deserve the same care we would give any shared public resource.

A couple of practical notes for everyone in the meantime:

If a website looks defaced, broken, or otherwise not right, avoid typing any personal information into it. When in doubt, close the tab.

For anything urgent involving the Town or County, use the phone or go in person rather than relying on a website that seems off.

We have no additional information about the hack, we're sure the affected site will be back to normal soon enough.

We will update this post if anything changes. Thanks for reading, and take care.
