New R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home
A new 144-room long-term care home on Church Street Extension, replacing the R.K. MacDonald on Pleasant Street. Every resident gets a private room with an ensuite, and licensed capacity rises from 136 to 144.
A new building on the StFX campus for the Victor and Mona Dahdaleh Institute for Innovation in Health, bringing together Human Kinetics, Nutrition, Psychology, and graduate health programs. It broke ground in July 2024, across from Mulroney Hall.
A $5.4 million overhaul of the Town's wastewater plant, adding screening, aeration, a new equipment building, and backup power to fix odour problems and add capacity. The Town chose upgrades over a costly new plant. As of June 2026 the construction bids came in about $2.2 million over budget and the Town is seeking new funding.

Full reconstruction of Bay Street and the east end of Main Street, from Haley Road to Marian Drive at the hospital. It replaces century-old water and sewer mains, raises the road against flooding, and adds accessible sidewalks and an active-transportation trail toward St. Martha's.
Replacing aging water, sewer, and stormwater lines and rebuilding the street with new curbs and accessible sidewalks along the West and James Street corridor. The work also unlocks land for up to 323 new homes, including 48 affordable units. West Street Phase 2 began in June 2026.
$4.1MCanada Housing Infrastructure Fund area package
A roughly 5 km paved walking and cycling path along the former Trans-Canada (Trunk 4) between Beech Hill Road and Addington Forks Road, linking the Town's active-transportation network and StFX.
Extending the four-lane divided Highway 104 east from Taylors Road past the Paqtnkek interchange, replacing at-grade intersections with a grade-separated interchange. The next phase of Trans-Canada twinning east of Antigonish.
Replacement of the East Tracadie overpass bridge on Highway 104, about 1.3 km east of Trunk 4. A request for quotes closed in December 2025 and it is listed as a 2026-27 major bridge project.
A 154-megawatt wind farm of up to 22 turbines near Connors Mountain Road in Antigonish County, developed by RES under Nova Scotia's Green Choice Program. It received environmental approval in April 2026 and would power roughly 49,000 homes. The project is on the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi'kmaq.
Three new cell towers planned for Arisaig, Malignant Cove, and North Lochaber to close coverage gaps in Antigonish County, delivered through the province's Cellular for Nova Scotia program. Construction is expected to begin in 2026.
